Marchioness in dock over triple smash

- BY LUCY THORNTON AND KEVIN DONALD

A MARCHIONESS is alleged to have caused a crash when her 4x4 was sent spinning and hit by a lorry after she had pulled in front of a car.

Lady Susan Zetland, 77, is said to have driven through a closed junction close to her home, Aske Hall, near Richmond, North Yorks.

Her driving fell “far below the standard of the competent and careful driver”, Teesside crown court was told.

She told jurors: “The van in front of me went through and perhaps I just followed. I don’t remember pulling out, the next thing I remember was being... bang!”

Lady Zetland, who was not hurt, denies dangerous driving. Trial continues.
