24 HOURS IN A&E

C4, 9pm Another heart-stopping visit to London’s St George’s hospital – and if you are remotely squeamish, you shouldn’t tune in.

This series 13 opener focuses on three young men, all treated within the same 24-hour period.

Shea, 17, is brought in after a serious knife assault, and his blood pressure is becoming dangerously low.

His mum, Charmaine, fears the worst as he’s transferred to a high-dependency unit because the knife may have damaged his liver. Meanwhile Bob, also 17, arrives after impaling his leg on a fence while taking a short cut home from school.

His mum, Kathy, says: “He’s a big boy, 6ft 6in, and he was stuck on a railing with two ladies in Lycra lifting him off.”

As Bob waits for treatment, the impact of the accident dawns on him when he realises he’s ruined his moleskin trousers.

And James, 33, is whizzed in after fainting at home. He recently fractured his skull during a fight on Brighton beach after a friend’s funeral, and doctors fear neurological problems.
