CITY TO SPLASH £300M ON ‘THE WORLD’S BEST’

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

MANCHESTER CITY are vowing to sign “the best talent in the world” to complete Pep Guardiola’s “puzzle”.

City chief Khaldoon Al

Mubarak claims Guardiola failed to win a trophy last season because he did not have the right players for his system.

The Blues will back him by splashing out up to £300million, with Tottenham’s Kyle Walker expected to be the next through the door for £50m and another full-back, Benjamin Mendy of Monaco, also on City’s hit-list.

Al Mubarak said: “Pep has introduced a new way of playing for us, an exciting way, but a way that requires work and which requires a set of players that function within that system.

“Probably if I look back at this season, that puzzle wasn’t complete and I hope this summer we support Pep in completing that puzzle.

“We are going to get some of the best talent in the world to be part of this strategy.”

Keeper Ederson is set to complete his £35m move from Benfica in the next 24 hours and Monaco’s Bernardo Silva is already signed.

There could also be a further two players to add to the squad.

Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and possibly another centrehalf are also on City’s radar and Al Mubarak said: “Fullback it is clear, both on the right and left, are areas that require investment.

“Pep relies heavily on that position. Pep knows what he wants and who he wants.”
