City chairman: We dream of winning the Treble.. but I say go for the Quadruple
MANCHESTER CITY want to make history by winning the Quadruple.
Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak underlined the club’s boundless ambition by claiming he is hungry to win every trophy possible with Pep Guardiola.
Al Mubarak refuses to set any limits on what City can achieve and says everyone at the club, from owner Sheikh Mansour down, wants to rewrite the record books.
“My hunger for winning, it’s amazing,” said the Blues chief.
“When we first won the league, I thought this is it, the greatest feeling you can get in football, you can’t beat this feeling.
“When we won it the second time, and you want to win it more, you get hungry, hungrier and hungrier. Because I’ve tasted it, because I’ve felt it, when I look at the future, it’s about successfully executing this plan that we constantly develop every year.
“We are trying to win, winning in the right way and achieving history for this club forever. That excites me.
“It excites me trying to win the Champions League. That dream excites me every day, knowing we can do it.
“The dream of doing the Treble, yes. You mentioned the Double, no, I want to do the Treble, or else let’s go for the Quadruple! Why not? We should have that aspiration. I have it, no doubt.
“Sheikh Mansour drives me for it every day, but you look at the organisation, you see it in Pep’s eyes in everybody within our group. “Pep wants to win it all and that’s what I love most about him because that’s how I feel, we want to win it all. We might not be able to achieve it, but I can assure you, we’re going to try to do that.”
Al Mubarak and Guardiola are also ambitious for City’s academy, even though Kelechi Iheanacho remains its only graduate to regularly play for the senior team. But Al Mubarak insists the academy is full of talent and singled out 17-year-olds Jadon Sancho, Phil Foden and Brahim Diaz as three who can step up to Guardiola’s firstteam pool.
“This year we have three or four players who we can genuinely believe have a very good chance of making it to the first team,” he said.
“You look at Sancho, you look at Phil Foden, you look at Brahim Diaz, just to name a few. These are players that are extremely talented.
“These are players who have a very good chance of making it to the first team.
“And these are players that if you ask Pep today, he will tell you they can, and will, be first-team players at Manchester City.”
