‘OUR BIG SPENDING WILL NOT STOP’

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

MANCHESTER CITY supremo Khaldoon Al Mubarak insists the Blues’ huge spending is sustainable.

City have already splashed out £78million on Bernardo Silva (right) and Ederson, and could spend up to £300m on players this summer.

But Al Mubarak claims the club – who finished third in the Premier League – are not being wreckless and says financial stability is key.

“It’s very important because this club has to have a sustainable development strategy, and that’s what we have built over the years and that’s what we have today,” said the Blues chairman. “We’ve posted a profit of approximately £21m. We’ve hit record years in terms of revenue of about £392m.

“We are financially very strong. We continue to be profitable and will continue to be profitable and to grow our top and bottom line.

“That’s important because what we have to maintain for this club is financial sustainability and stability.

“And that’s been achieved and, I would say today more than ever, I know we have laid the right foundation.

“We’re on a highway going in one direction and it’s a positive direction.”
