First cop on scene: I screamed for help
THE first police officer to arrive at the scene of the bombing has described the horrors he saw. British Transport Police PCSO Mark Renshaw, 24, said: “I heard an extremely loud explosion that literally shook me. I saw people running and screaming and my initial response was to go the same way. Something kicked in and I ran through the barriers, up the steps and into the foyer. “I remember screaming down my radio to get my colleagues and first aiders here.” Mark ran outside to get first-aid packs and ran back. He said: “A little girl tapped my vest and said, ‘Can you help my mummy?’ There was nothing I could do to save her. I tried to resuscitate two other people but they died.” His colleague Jane Bridgewater, 44, of Accrington, Lancs, arrived within minutes. She said: “We went from individual to individual, giving first aid and resuscitation. “We saw what we saw. “I did anything and everything to get them out.”
