Ern’s hard Barca task

-

ERNESTO VALVERDE says he faces the most “difficult challenge” after taking the reins at Barcelona.

The 53-year-old signed a two-year deal at the Nou Camp, with the option of a third, following a career with Valencia, Villarreal, Espanyol, Olympiakos and Athletic Bilbao.

“When a team like Barcelona call you, you don’t need to think too much about it,” he said.

“It’s the most difficult challenge in my career, but also the nicest.”

Valverde, who played for Barcelona under Johan Cruyff between 1988 and 1990, said: “I’m conscious of Barca’s style of football. I have to re-adapt to it.

“I think there are things I can do differently, but it’s something I must decide as we go.”

Valverde takes over at the Nou Camp from Luis Enrique, who won nine trophies in his three years.
