Nanny who ‘snapped’ jailed for shaking baby to death
AN unqualified nanny who violently shook a baby in a “moment of madness” has been jailed for four years.
Viktoria Tautz was looking after 10-month-old Joshua Paul when he collapsed, the Old Bailey heard.
Zoe Johnson QC said Tautz, 34, “snapped” and caused Joshua catastrophic injury by “dangerous and excessive shaking.” She rejected Tautz’s claim the tot had been hurt in a “horsey” game at the flat in Haringey, north London. Joshua was taken to hospital and died three days after the incident in August 2014. A jury convicted her of manslaughter by a 10 to 2 majority verdict. Mrs Justice McGowan told Tautz, of Barnet, North London: “You were not in the same position as a teenage mother in the middle of the night on her own trapped in a flat without anyone to help her.”
