Have faith in Journey to find the right path

-

DON’T stop believing in JOURNEY as she takes on the boys in the Group 1 Investec Coronation Cup (3.10) at Epsom today.

The John Gosden-trained daughter of Dubawi improved rapidly in 2016, landing a Group 3 at Haydock in May before returning from a break to score in Listed company at Newmarket in September.

But it was her victory in the top-level British Champions Fillies And Mares Stakes at Ascot in October that marked Journey out as a performer of the highest calibre.

Frankie Dettori’s mount put up another personal best when storming to an impressive four-length margin over Speedy Boarding, herself a dual Group 1 scorer.

More is needed as Journey clashes with male opposition for the first time, but the five-year-old hasn’t yet reached the bottom of the barrel if last autumn is any guide.

Gosden (above) and Dettori also have strong claims in the Investec Click & Invest Mile Handicap (2.35) with REMARKABLE, who should appreciate the step back up in distance after having little go right in the seven-furlong Victoria Cup at Ascot last month. Old favourite WHAT ABOUT CARLO gets the vote to strike for the in-form Eve Johnson Houghton in the Investec Wealth & Investment Handicap (3.45). Twice a winner over this course and distance, What About Carlo, who carries the colours of late comedian Mel Smith, has to defy joint-top weight but ran a fine third in this contest last season in a race that was not run to suit. The opening Investec Woodcote Stakes (2.00) looks a good opportunity for favourite DE BRUYNE HORSE to add to an emphatic Ripon triumph at Ripon 12 days ago. The son of Showcasing made all the running to thump Way Of Wisdom by seven lengths and should once more take some catching under Ryan Moore.
