Corbyn or coward ...it’s a clear choice

-

The fact that Theresa May ducked out of the BBC leadership debate tells you all you need to know about her suitability as Prime Minister. She is a coward and someone who clearly doesn’t have confidence in either herself or her policies.

If she is unwilling or unable to handle a television debate, how will she handle the complex issues and negotiations with her counterparts in the EU and stand up to the rightwing europhobes in her party?

Her weakness and cowardice are there for all to see, as well as her arrogance and disdain for the public.

By comparison, Jeremy Corbyn is courageous and a man of his word.

If I were wavering about who to vote for, this would convince me that the Labour leader is the right choice. Norman Hanson, Bingham, Notts # Jeremy Corbyn was quite right to attend the BBC debate in Cambridge as it exposes May for the coward she is. No matter how much the rightwing media and the Tories twist and turn, they can’t hide the fact that Corbyn outclasses the PM on every level. I just hope enough people are taking notice and vote Labour in. Delys Wallace Bradford, West Yorks # Does Theresa May actually want to be Prime Minister? Her actions during this campaign seem to either alienate the electorate or ignore us. How can seeing a few people on doorsteps equal seen by millions of people on TV, and millions more on the internet?

I have a nagging feeling that Mrs May doesn’t actually want to be the one responsible for Brexit.

If it goes wrong with Labour in charge, she could then heckle from the sidelines and the Tory Party would have clean hands.

Also, I’m still puzzling over how the Tories claim to have run the economy well when they have more than doubled the deficit after promising to get rid of it by 2020. Geoff Willmetts Bridgwater, Somerset Although I’m a committed Labour supporter, I feel that Amber Rudd deserves credit for standing in for cowardly Theresa May so soon after the death of her father, knowing she would face much flak from the other party leaders. Andrew Miller Doncaster, South Yorks # How on earth can anyone believe Theresa May can deliver a strong Brexit when she’s afraid to face her political opponents in a live TV debate?

When she’s interviewed, she never answers the questions, and she runs from the press when they try to pin her down. Strong and stable? Don’t make me laugh. Helen Moran, Sunderland How can we view Theresa May as the strong leader to get us the best Brexit deal when she fails to turn up for the TV election debate with other party leaders? To me that shows weakness, not strength. Valerie Crews Beckenham, Kent # During the BBC debate, Amber Rudd criticised Jeremy Corbyn for believing in a money tree. She is right, there is a money tree – and the rich are gathering all that falls from it. Mick Smith, Tilbury, Essex
