ROGER WATERS
At 73, the multimillionaire former Pink Floyd lynchpin has nothing to lose and much to say on his first solo album in 25 years. The sweeping nature of the themes are signalled on Déjà Vu, where personal vanity combines with images of “bankers getting fat” and “hermaphrodite trout” in poisoned water, and The Last Refugee sees Waters tapping into the zeitgeist with familiar blowsy self-importance. It’s heavy going and always less impressive than his declamatory style portends.
