Saffie mum off life support and told daughter, eight, has died

-

THE badly injured mother of the youngest Manchester bombing victim has woken up and been told of her daughter’s tragic death.

Lisa Roussos, 48, had been on life support after being hit by shrapnel in evil Salman Abedi’s suicide blast.

Eight-year-old Saffie was killed in the attack at Ariana Grande’s concert.

Lisa had a series of operations and was kept in intensive care. Family spokesman Mike Swanson, 38, said: “She was in a critical condition at first but came off life support on Saturday,

WELL-WISHERS The Roussos’ fish shop and was up and talking on Sunday. She’s aware of the situation with Saffie.

“She’s still in hospital but she’s moving her legs, which is fantastic. Lisa’s pulling through and it’s really important people know that.” A huge display of flowers has been left by wellwishers outside the fish and chip shop run by Mrs Roussos and her husband Andrew, 43, in Leyland, Lancs.

Saffie’s sister Ashlee Bromwich, 27, was also injured in the Manchester Arena blast last Monday but is expected to leave hospital next week.

Mr Swanson said: “Ashlee is remarkably well. She went to a different hospital to her mum with wounds. Andrew has been so strong. He’s not wanted to grieve until he knew his wife was going

to be OK.” Yesterday it emerged Britishborn Abedi, 22, made a number of calls to Libya, as well as one to his mum there, in the hours before his attack.

Investigators are trying to find out who he was talking to and if they were guiding his suicide mission. They also want to know why Abedi repeatedly visited Wilmslow Road in Rusholme, Manchester, with a blue suitcase.

Police have been going door to door in the area. A house was raided in a side street on Monday, and two days later a bomb disposal unit was called there. Neighbour Syed Akil Ali said: “[Police] have been here since Monday evening.

“They showed us a picture of [Abedi] but I didn’t recognise him. We saw many police today and they sealed the road, so we’re now scared. It does make you feel frightened.”

As the huge security operation following the attack comes to a close, 10 men remain in custody in the UK. It is understood police are still questioning Abedi’s older brother Ismail, 23.

His brother Hashem, 20, and father Ramadan, 50, have been held in Tripoli.
