WE can hear the panic in Theresa May’s clipped answers and see the fear in her eyes as the Tories’ commanding lead in the opinion polls dwindles rapidly just days before the general election.
She’s blown it. Both her judgment and authority have been battered in a campaign she may just win. But she’ll still lose. How she must regret calling a snap election she arrogantly anticipated would be a coronation.
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is growing in confidence although it would be rash to predict the outcome of this unpredictable race.
On Brexit the two main parties are closer than either would care to admit, both seeking access for British goods and services to the Continental market, while ending the free movement of people over the English Channel.
Yet Brexit is only one, albeit very important, issue when living standards and public services are up for grabs.
