Two died on same yacht in world race

- BY CHRIS DYER

AN amateur yachtswoman who tried to save a fatally hurt crewmate died in the same round-the-world race months later.

A sail hit Andrew Ashman, 49, in high winds, a pre-inquest hearing into his death was told.

Businesswoman Sarah Young had tried in vain to save the paramedic, of Orpington, Kent, in the accident off Portugal on September 5, 2015.

In April 2016 Sarah, 40, from London, died after a wave knocked her off the IchorCoal in the Pacific.

Another pre-inquest review into Mr Ashman’s death will decide if a jury is needed, Southwark coroner’s court heard.

Senior Coroner Dr Andrew Harris said: “It is inescapable, it’s an unnatural death.”
