I stepped aside for my wife’s sex act with fella in woods because it empowered her

A BBC radio host let his wife carry out a sex act on a teenager in the woods because it “empowered” her, a court heard.

Tony Wadsworth, 69, said he found it “erotic” to watch his wife Julie, 60, romp with the young man, while she found it “exhilarating and exciting”.

Mr and Mrs Wadsworth are accused of encouraging boys to take part in sexual activity from 1992-1996.

They admit to the sexual encounters, but deny they were with children. The couple, of Broughton Astley, Leics, are ex-BBC Radio Leicester and BBC WM hosts, once known as the “Richard and Judy of local radio”.

Mr Wadsworth told of two encounters in Mancetter Park, near Atherstone, Warks. He said on the first occasion his wife pleasured a teen in front of him.

The veteran DJ told jurors: “It was positive, because she felt empowered as a woman.” He described his wife as a “damaged person” who was “not confident in her appearance”. “She is very special. I tried to bring out the woman inside her, I suppose,” he added.

Mr Wadsworth said they were “kissing and cuddling” in the woods when they noticed a young man watching. He said: “It was a moment in time. I looked at Julie, she looked at me. I stepped to one side and the other guy moved in.

“He played with her breasts. It was erotic. It caused me to have an erection. I may have masturbated.

“He was clearly highly aroused. She masturbated him. [Julie] found it exhilarating and exciting.”

Mr Wadsworth said they went back to the woods around three months later. He told the jury: “We were kissing and cuddling. It was evident there were others around. They obviously heard something had happened and came down on the chance of coming across us.

“I stepped aside. The first one touched Julie on her breasts. Person one finished and person two came forward. It was exciting for me.”

He said he got a kick out of the romps, but added: [Our actions] have come back to bite us in the bum.”

Mr Wadsworth said he began to feel uncomfortable because there were too many there. “The situation was getting out of hand. We both agreed it was ridiculous, foolhardy and stupid, and we didn’t go back.”

Mr Wadsworth denies nine charges of indecent assault against seven boys aged under 18. His wife denies 11 charges of the same offence and both deny five counts of outraging public decency. The trial continues.
