36 found dead after hotel is torched by casino gunman
POLICE yesterday confirmed 36 people were found dead in the ruins of a hotel and casino set on fire by a lone gunman.
Hundreds fled as he ran in firing at slot machines. Police said the dead were suffocated by smoke.
A further 54 were injured in Thursday’s attack in Manila, capital of the Philippines. Islamic State claimed responsibility but police insist it was a bungled robbery. The gunman, said to be an Englishspeaking Caucasian, set himself on fire. His body was found by a machine gun. Police chief General Ronald Dela Rosa said the gunman stole £2million of gambling chips and did not fire directly at people. He added: “If this is ISIS, all people gambling should have been shot.” IS fighters are currently battling troops in the southern city of Marawi.
