Cheaper fuel for Brits on Europe trips

- BY RUKI SAYID

HOLIDAYMAKERS driving in Europe this summer will be miles better off than those on a staycation, thanks to cheaper fuel.

Motorists heading to Spain will pay 97p per litre of diesel. It is £1.17 here.

This means a full tank for a small family hatchback will cost £53.35 – £11 less than in the UK, where it will be £64.35.

Unleaded petrol is also 10p cheaper in Spain. UK pump prices average £1.16.

Andorra topped the list of 20 countries for best value fuel, with diesel 36p less per litre than here.

But while diesel in Germany, France and Ireland was cheaper than in the UK, unleaded was pricier there, Post Office Travel Money found. Spokesman Andrew Brown said: “It will pay to plan where to fill up.”
