Bale future is with Real

- BY JOHN CROSS

GARETH BALE could miss out on a fairytale return to Wales – but has been assured Madrid will remain his home.

Real Madrid star Bale, 27, is set to be on the bench for the final. That has raised serious question marks about his long-term future as midfielder Isco is likely to get the nod for the starting XI.

But the Wales talisman has been left in no doubt he is viewed as a huge part of Real’s future by the club’s hierarchy and manager Zinedine Zidane.

Bale has endured a frustrating season because of injury and his latest calf problem has meant he has missed the last six weeks, only recently returning to training.

He is restricted to a role off the bench tonight with Zidane hoping his pace as a substitute could end up being a match winner for the Spaniards.

Former Wales and Juventus striker Ian Rush said: “It would be the icing on the cake for Gareth Bale, people seeing him in Real Madrid colours.

“He could come on and score the winning goal – what better story could you ask for?

“I wouldn’t put it past him because he’s good enough to do that.”
