Terror officers move in after a ‘significant’ car is found

-

HUNDREDS of people were evacuated from their homes after police swooped on a car that may have been linked to the Manchester terror attack.

Streets were sealed off and an Army bomb disposal team raced to the scene.

Detective Chief Superintendent Russ Jackson said: “This is potentially a significant development in the investigation.”

Suicide bomber Salman Abedi had previously been identified on CCTV in the Rusholme area of the city, where the white Nissan Micra was spotted yesterday.

Mr Jackson added: “We’re very interested in anything people can tell us about this car.”

The vehicle was found close to homes that were searched earlier this week.

Police have released more CCTV images of Abedi taken in the run-up to the May 22 atrocity.

Mr Jackson said: “We are still working to track his movements. We need to understand if he had any of the bomb parts before he went out of the country.”

Meanwhile, Scotland Yard can find no record of calls made to a terror hotline about the bomber.

It had been claimed two people had tipped off police over his support for terrorism. Police have said Abedi had appeared on their radar as a teenager only for a string of minor crimes.
