REVELLERS FOUGHT BACK

‘They stabbed a woman. They were like pack of wild animals’

CHASED ATTACKERS Gerard Vowls A RAILWAY worker hurled a chair, bottles and pint glasses at the London Bridge terrorists in a desperate bid to halt their horrific attack.

Gerard Vowls had been watching the Champions League final in a nearby pub before the atrocity.

The 47-year-old said: “At 10pm, I decided to get some food, so headed up to London Bridge.

“I saw a man leaning against a glass window. He had been stabbed. Then a guy dressed in white legged it past me shouting, ‘They’re stabbing people’.

“A split second later, I saw the three guys. They were big fellas, dressed in normal Western clothes.

“I could see something strapped to them, like lots of mobile phones wrapped around their bodies.

“They stood over a woman on the ground. They were stabbing her and stabbing her, repeatedly. She was saying, ‘Help me, help me’ but I couldn’t do anything. The men shouted, ‘This is for Allah’. They were over her like a pack of animals.

SCREAMING

“Then, the men ran towards Borough Market. I ran after them, screaming, ‘They’re terrorists, run’.

“I grabbed a pint glass and lobbed it at one of them. He turned and came at me, so I ran.

“I then threw a chair. I grabbed some beer bottles and lobbed them.

“I saw them run into a restaurant. They stabbed a couple who were in the entrance. It was absolute chaos.

“Most people ran but, in the pubs, some were chucking glasses at them.

“Eventually, they ran off towards London Bridge again. I saw officers and told them where they had gone.

“We all ran towards London Bridge — and then heard the gunfire. I saw all three lying on the ground.

“I just went wandering around. I was shaking and crying.

“I can’t stop thinking about that poor woman who was being stabbed. I just wish I could have done more to save her.”
