Buffon in last-chance saloon

- BY JOHN CROSS

GIANLUIGI BUFFON will give himself “one more chance” of winning the Champions League. The Juventus legend, 39, suffered defeat in the final for a third time but is determined not to give up his dream. Keeper Buffon (right) said: “I still have one more year on my contract, so that means I have one more chance of winning the Champions League.

“Admittedly, it will be tough to do better than this year, because we could have done something truly incredible. Sadly, we didn’t manage it.”

Buffon would go down as one of the greatest players never to lift the Champions League, having already hinted he could retire after next year’s World Cup.

The Italy keeper added: “We thought we did everything we needed to win.

“I cannot explain why we played like we did in the second half.”
