So how the hell did he slip through? probed

This is London Bridge killer Khuram Butt unfurling an ISIS flag on C4’s The Jihadis Next Door. He was linked to two notorious British ISIS executioners and had been probed by MI5 and cops for the past 2 years..

ONE of the London Bridge killers was being by police as he plotted the attack. Khuram Butt had IS links but was never held. A relative said: “He was radical.”

KHURAM Butt was an Islamic extremist who had bragged about wanting to fight in Syria and had links to jihadi butchers and hate preachers, it has been revealed.

The 27-year-old also appeared on a TV show about Muslim fanatics, was known to the police and MI5 who began investigating him in 2015 and was said to have been reported by neighbours to an anti-terror hotline.

But the killer was bumped down the threat list as officers could find no evidence he was intending to carry out attacks, despite a string of clues that he was a radical.

That left Arsenal fan Butt free to plot the London Bridge massacre alongside Rashid Redouane, 30, and a third man who together murdered seven revellers on a night out and left 48 injured last Saturday.

One relative of Butt told how the killer had wanted to leave his pregnant wife behind to go and fight with Islamic State in Syria, as she recovered from a brain haemorrhage in hospital.

The family member said: “We said to him, ‘You can’t leave your wife, a pregnant lady fighting for her life’.

“He was quite radical and had very extreme thoughts. It was only when the family intervened that he didn’t go.

“Even when she was in hospital he wanted to go to Syria and he was inviting everybody. He was still trying to preach Islam to everyone, including the security guards at the hospital.

“The first time I met him he was calling me non-believer, asking, “Why don’t you have a beard?’ He was trying to say we are not great Muslims.

“He just left and we haven’t see him since. His wife is a lovely girl, but she doesn’t have any power over him. He never listens to anyone and nobody likes him.”

Butt and Redouane, who were named by police as two of the killers, both lived in Barking, East London. The identity of the third had not been released last night.

Locals claimed they had twice told anti-terror officers of their fears Butt was a danger after becoming alarmed at his behaviour in recent years.

It was also alleged he had been ejected from a local mosque for berating an imam for encouraging worshippers to vote in the 2015 general election.

And he was recently spotted trying to do the same in the streets of East London ahead of Thursday’s poll.

One female neighbour said: “He didn’t like it when I was out and about. He didn’t like women. I think he thinks they should be suppressed at home. Last week he had a barbecue and he said, ‘It’s a no-women zone.’”

The Mirror can reveal that Butt had links to notorious IS executioners Siddhartha Dhar and 6ft 6in Mohammed Reza Haque – dubbed “Jihadi Sid” and the “Jihadi Giant” – which are now being investigated by security services.

He also appeared in a Channel 4 documentary last year called The Jihadis Next Door, about British extremists. Butt was filmed unfurling an IS-style flag in Regent’s Park, Central London.

Dhar, who changed his named to Abu Rumaysah, also featured in the programme alongside firebrands Abu Haleema and Mohammed Shamsuddin.

Haleema had contact with a teenage jihadi who wanted to carry out a beheading in Australia, while Shamsuddin was an associate of Islamic cleric Anjem Choudary and joined a radical group after meeting hate preacher Omar Bakri.

There is no suggestion Shamsuddin or Haleema had any involvement in Saturday’s attack.

But police insisted Butt, a British citizen born in Pakistan, betrayed no evidence of his evil intentions. And despite the calls to the terror hotline, he was dropped down the list of the 500 most active probes.

The Met’s assistant commissioner Mark Rowley said: “All the work done has never provided any evidence or intelligence of attack planning or other serious offences, consequently as time went on prioritisation of that operation moved and was currently in the lower echelons.”The officers also claimed he had “seen nothing yet” to indicate that a “poor decision has been made” by police or secret agents. Talking about the three killers, he added: “Work is ongoing to understand more about them, their connections and whether they were assisted or supported by anyone else.” Mr Rowley refused to discuss how Butt and Redouane, 30, met. Former security site guard Butt had previously worked for the London Underground and KFC as an office manager. He claims on a CV obtained by the Mirror that he held a Home Office approved security licence issued last year, while under investigation. The Home Office declined to comment. Butt was a married dad with one baby and another child aged around three. He was a supporter of the banned Islamist group al-Muhajiroun

whose leader Choudary has been linked to the recruitment of more than 100 British terror suspects.

The killer Butt boasts on his CV of his “ability to work under intense pressure while managing multiple tasks” and claims he was “a strong team player with extensive communication skills”.

He also said he was “adept at communication with a variety of people effectively and relaxed in tentative situations,” was a qualified first-aider and a “motivated, zealous and trusted individual with the drive to make a difference and improve, in any given environment.”

On the top of his application he stated how he “fights tooth and nail to achieve the best results for the business, while keeping himself focused and balanced”.

The killer had applied for a job at a West London removal firm just weeks before the London Bridge rampage, raising fears he wanted to access to a lorry in an attempt to copy the 2016 Nice attack that killed 86. But a source revealed he was turned down as it was too far from his Barking home.

Butt last used WhatsApp messenger service on Wednesday at 6.59pm, three days before his terror rampage.

On his profile, he wrote on May 10: “ALLAH says (Quran 94:6) - Indeed, with hardship, comes ease.” His profile picture recited lines of the Koran which read: “Speak justice, speak kindly, speak politely, speak fairly, speak gently, speak graciously, speak not in vain.”

Redouane, who also used the name Rachid Elkhdar, claimed to be of Moroccan and Libyan descent. He was unknown to police.

The former pastry chef was unmasked via an Irish identity card found in his pocket after he was gunned down on Saturday. Former partner, Charisse O’Leary, 38, was among those arrested on Sunday morning. The couple married five years ago and have a one-year-old daughter

Friends said their “mismatched” relationship soured following the birth and they split nine months ago.

Charisse’s neighbour Kieran Dunn claimed Redouane visited his child hours before the London Bridge attack. The 24-year-old added: “She married him and chucked him out not long ago.

“He came back on Saturday night and checked out of the flats at 7.30pm.”

Armed police yesterday carried out dawn raids on properties in Dagenham and Newham. Six people were led away but not formally arrested. A former swingers club was also searched.

Of the seven women and five men held since the attack, a man and a woman have since been released.

Last night, 36 of those injured in the London Bridge murders were still in hospital, with 18 critical.
