619,000 jobs are cut from manufacturing
BRITAIN has shed 619,000 manufacturing jobs in the last decade, a study reveals today.
In 2006, 3.5 million people had manufacturing jobs, more than 12% of the workforce. By 2016, that had slumped to just 2.9 million, or 9.3% of the total, according to the GMB union.
Yesterday, as actor Ross Kemp campaigned with Labour MP Julie Elliott in Sunderland, the Fire Brigades Union blasted the axing of 500 control room posts since 2010.
