Roger Moore ‘invented the Magnum bar’
SIR Roger Moore invented the Magnum ice cream, a pal of the late actor claims.
The James Bond star had suggested Wall’s create a chocolate-covered ice cream.
And family friend Chrissy Iley added Moore, who died last month aged 89, was later sent a version of the bar.
The journalist said: “One thing Roger is not universally known for is the fact he virtually invented the Magnum.”
Ms Iley claims he told her about a 1960s interview in which he was asked which person he would like to meet and what he would ask them.
She said Moore told her: “I said I’d like to meet Mr Wall’s and ask why they don’t have a choc ice with vanilla inside, that I had as a child, on a stick.
“I got a call from Mr Wall’s, who sent me a cake with plain chocolate outside and vanilla ice cream inside.” In 1989 Wall’s launched Magnum; chocolate-coated vanilla ice cream on a stick. Ms Iley added the diabetic star ate a couple of the Black Espresso variety a week, telling her: “Low in sugar but the best thing in the world. I can make them last half an hour.” Wall’s said: “Sadly we never heard this brilliant story but are thrilled to hear the late, great Sir Roger Moore was a fan.”
