Refs chief hits back
REFEREES’ boss Steve Ganson has defended the standard of officiating in Super League following extensive criticism.
Leigh chairman Derek Beaumont and Hull FC counterpart Adam Pearson have both expressed detailed concerns in public recently.
But former referee Ganson said: “I’m fairly satisfied.
“When I took over, the talent pool was small – there were only five fulltime referees for six games.
“I currently have seven full-time referees and we are due to announce a new referee to join the squad very soon.
“I take the criticism hard because I care about the standards we have.
“If it’s justified, I will act accordingly.”
Ganson also said that introducing Australia’s tworeferee system could happen – but not in the near future.
He added: “It’s not a possibility yet, but it’s very much under consideration.
“I’ve spent time in the NRL evaluating procedures, policies and training methods for referees.”
