Vantastic VW to drive away in record sale
A VINTAGE VW camper van loaded with mod-cons is poised to beat a British sales record of £85,000.
It is a highly sought-after first generation Type 2 camper made in 1967, year of the Summer of Love.
The splitscreen VW was imported from the US without an engine.
It took four years to restore in Nottingham.
The updated interior includes a fridge, hob, DVD player and sound system.
Auctioneers Bonhams are selling it at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex on June 30.
A spokesman said: “The Type 2 is arguably one of the world’s most popular and recognisable vehicles.”
The world record for a VW camper is £150,000 for a 1955 model that sold in Germany in 2014.
