WOAKES FACING TEST KO
CHRIS WOAKES admits he is struggling to be fit for the first two Tests against South Africa.
Woakes (left) suffered a side strain in the opening Champions Trophy game against Bangladesh.
The tear in his intercostal muscle, debilitating for a fast bowler, is likely to rule him out for six weeks.
The first Test at Lord’s is on July 6 followed quickly by the second match of the series at Trent Bridge.
“It’s a grade-two injury, which is not terrible news, but it’s not great news either,” said the 28-year-old.
“They say it’s roughly a four- to six-week injury, and it’s more likely to be towards the six by the time I am back playing competitive cricket.
“I won’t rule it out, but I’m probably up against it for the first Test.”
