Hull great dies at 80

-

HULL FC have announced the death of the most successful coach in the clubs’s history.

Arthur Bunting, who was 80, was boss the last time they won the title in 1983 and oversaw a recordbreaking season in 1978-79, his Invincibles winning all 26 games in the second tier.

During his time in charge from 1978 to 1985, Bunting – who coached and played for Hull KR as well – also won the Challenge Cup, the Yorkshire Cup three times, the John Player Trophy and the BBC2 Floodlit Trophy.

“This is a very sad day for everyone connected with the club as we lose one of the finest people to ever be associated with Hull FC,” executive director James Clark said.

“His record as a coach speaks for itself – unprecedented success.”
