GEORGE Clooney’s dad thinks the star will give a winning performance as he raises his “beautiful” children.

Nick Clooney, 83, said the actor will be “an absolutely wonderful father” to twins Ella and Alexander, who were born in a London hospital on Tuesday.

And on nappy duty, he added: “George will be hands-on entirely and he will do it with humour and with joy.”

Speaking of his grandchildren, he added: “They’re beautiful. I’m supposed to be a reporter, therefore observant, but I don’t know how to describe one beautiful baby from another. These are two beautiful babies. They are perfect.”

Praising Clooney’s wife Amal, he said: “Amal will be – and already is – a magnificent mother. I’m constantly amazed by her. She is an incredible woman.”

Nick also sent thanks to the couple’s fans, saying: “They have sent good wishes, they have kept attentive watch on this event as it unfolded and we have really been very grateful, thank you.”

The twins are the first children for both Clooney, 56, and lawyer Amal, 39, who were married in September 2014. News of the pregnancy broke in February on a US talk show.

Clooney’s close friend Matt Damon, who starred with him in Ocean’s Eleven, confirmed that the news was true.

He told Entertainment Tonight Canada: “I’m thrilled for him. He hit the jackpot. Just on every level. She [Amal] is a remarkable woman. They’re going to be great. They’re going to be awesome parents. Those kids are lucky.”

Comedian and TV host Ellen DeGeneres was one of the first celebrities to congratulate the new parents.

She tweeted: “Welcome to the world, Ella and Alexander Clooney. Congratulations, George and Amal, or as I’m now calling you, Ocean’s Four.”
