Ocean refugee rescue in peril

One of the most disturbing stories this week was news that far-right activists are planning to disrupt operations in the Med to rescue refugees.

Members of the anti-immigrant Identitarian movement have crowdfunded £56,489 in less than three weeks to help them target boats run by aid agencies. A French far-right group has already held a trial run, disrupting a rescue vessel as it left Catania in Sicily.

This year 1,650 refugees have died crossing the Med. Medecins Sans Frontieres calls it “a mass grave in the Mediterranean Sea”.
