Sick tot Charlie’s parents in Human Rights Court hopes

- BY BRIAN FARMER

THE parents of gravely ill baby Charlie Gard are hoping to fight their case in the European Court of Human Rights after losing their Supreme Court battle.

Mum Connie Yates yesterday screamed as three judges dismissed the latest challenge by herself and the tot’s dad, Chris Gard.

She said outside court: “How can they do this to us?” Charlie has a rare genetic condition. His parents, of Bedfont, West London, want to take the 10-month-old to America for a therapy trial. Appeal judges last month upheld a ruling in favour of specialists at Great Ormond Street Hospital in Central London, who said the US experimental treatment will not help and life support should stop. But the Supreme Court said it should continue for 24 hours to give the ECHR in Strasbourg, France, time to consider the case.
