Husband, 96, strangles his wife after she begs ‘Please kill me’

A HUSBAND aged 96 strangled his wife of 68 years after she begged him to kill her before saying: “The things you do for love.”

Jack Tindall admitted killing Ernestine, 88, with a dressing gown cord because they believed they were being moved into separate care homes.

She is said to have told him: “Don’t let me wake up in the morning If you love me like I love you.”

Nottingham crown court heard the couple’s grandchild­ren had heard dementia victim Ernestine begging him to help her die. After the killing he put her on a bed at their care home in the city and laid lilies around her. He told police: “For years we’ve solemnly promised each other that if anything happens we know what to do and I’ve done it...my promise has been fulfilled.”
