Fit Brunt is Bak on track now

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

CHRIS BRUNT is desperate to reach the World Cup after missing out on Euro 2016 through injury.

Brunt tore his cruciate ligaments in February 2016 and the West Brom midfielder only returned to action in October.

His Northern Ireland side are second in Group C and Brunt, 32, wants to beat Azerbaijan today in Baku to stay in play-off contention.

He said: “Not getting to play at the Euros in the summer was disappointing.

“But it’s part and parcel of football and there’s not much you can do about it.

“I missed the first couple of games of this World Cup campaign and saw that the boys were doing well. And since then we’ve continued to give ourselves a good shout at the play-offs.

“It will take a miracle to stop Germany winning the group, but we have a good chance of a play-off spot and going to Russia.”
