BRAZIL-LIANT MEMORIES AT TYKES

-

BARNSLEY fans used to chant: It’s just like watching Brazil. The Tykes (and famous fan Dickie Bird, right) made the top flight for the first time in their 102-year history with a passing style that was pleasing on the eye. It was a tough campaign for Danny Wilson’s team who spent most of the season in the relegation zone. Barnsley also conceded more goals than any other team, 82 in all, as they went straight back down. All three newly-promoted clubs – Bolton, Barnsley and Crystal Palace – were relegated after just one season in the top division. After the Tykes’ relegation was confirmed, manager Wilson left to join rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
