I WON’T COME TO UK UNTIL I’M WELCOME
... So it could be a long wait as Trump’s visit ‘put on hold’
DONALD Trump has shelved his state visit to Britain because he is scared of mass protests.
The US President reportedly voiced his concerns in a recent phone call to Theresa May.
It effectively puts the trip on hold indefinitely, with voters unlikely to welcome him for some time, if ever.
Mr Trump has angered British politicians by pulling the US out of the Paris Agreement on climate change and lambasting London Mayor Sadiq Khan on Twitter.
Jeremy Corbyn tweeted last night: “Cancellation of President Trump’s State Visit is welcome, especially after his attack on London’s mayor & withdrawal from #ParisClimateDeal.”
Lib Dem leader Tim Farron said: “He knows the British people find his politics appalling and they won’t be scared to make their views known.
“Theresa May should be embarrassed that she was so quick to offer Trump a state visit.” No10 refused to comment “about the contents of private phone conversations” but insisted plans for a visit had not changed. Mr Trump sparked fury this month with online barbs against Mr Khan in the wake of the London Bridge terror attack. He called the mayor’s response to the atrocity as “pathetic” and took his “no reason to be alarmed” statement out of context. Mr Trump also defied nearly every other nation in the world by pulling the US out of the 2015 Paris treaty, which aims to cut CO2 emissions.
Yesterday a sand sculpture of the controversial leader was unveiled at an exhibition in Tottori, Japan.
