Dad’s victory in paternity leave battle

-

A CALL centre worker denied fully paid paternity leave after his wife fell ill with postnatal depression has won a landmark claim of sex discrimination.

Madasar Ali was told by Capita that he would only get two weeks’ full pay after daughter Yasmin’s premature birth in February 2016. Women received 14 weeks’ full pay.

The Leeds employment tribunal ruled that Capita had broken the law.

Employment Judge Rogerson said: “Either parent can perform the role of caring for their baby.” The tribunal also found for Mr Ali on several victimisation claims. Capita is appealing.
