Boozed-up yob gets life for New Year murder of jogger
A TEENAGER has been jailed for life over the “brutal” and “cruel” murder of a pensioner who was stripped and beaten in the street on New Year’s Day.
Nathan Richardson, 19, had taken a cocktail of drink and drugs at a New Year’s Eve house party before his “chance encounter” with frail jogger Wenqing Xu, 67,
Mr Xu – from China but staying with his daughter in Preston – suffered head and neck injuries plus bruising to his genital area. Richardson, of no fixed address, was seen dragging 7st 12lb Mr Xu along a pavement. He admitted murder. Judge Mark Brown said at Preston crown court the victim was in “the wrong place at the wrong time”. Det Chief Insp Gary Brooks said: “I’ve never seen injuries as bad.”
