-

BRITAIN’S top police chief has defended more use of stop and search in London, after 37 fatal stabbings in the capital this year.

New Met Commissioner Cressida Dick told BBC Crimewatch it was “a very powerful tool” for officers to crack down on killings.

She added: “I want them to be confident to use it. They must use it lawfully.”

In 2014, when Home Secretary, Theresa May called for a cut in stop and search over fears it unfairly targeted young black men.
