BBC2, 9pm Delays, overcrowding, cancellations, ticket price hikes, dirty trains – the list of complaints about our rail service is almost as long as the queues on the platforms.

“There’s a problem with our trains – they’re not working,” says filmmaker Jacques Peretti. He’s decided to find some disgruntled passengers (not difficult) to run a more efficient, customer-friendly train service (ever so slightly more difficult).

Brits are heartily fed up with the bad rail service we endure, but could we do it any better?

Jacques boards a train to get up close and personal with commuters – and you don’t get more up close and personal than being wedged into someone’s armpit.

Everyone’s irritated and it doesn’t take him long to find some people willing to take on the challenge to bid for the Southeastern railway franchise.

Jacques follows them as they set about the revolutionary plan. Will it prove too complex, or will the Department for Transport welcome a new passenger-run company as a viable option?
