PSYCHO’S LAST HURRAH

-

IT was the year Psycho finally said farewell.

Stuart Pearce grew an army of admirers with his combative style and it was Nottingham Forest fans who coined the ‘Psycho’ moniker.

But it spread as his bone-crunching tackles were enjoyed – or feared – worldwide.

Pearce (above) played for Coventry, Forest, Newcastle, West Ham and Manchester City. He was 40 when he quit playing for City – and he ended the season as a champion, with City winning the Division One title.

Roy Keane, who arrived at Forest as a callow Irish teenager with Pearce as his skipper, said: “Stuart Pearce was captain when I was at Forest – a brilliant, brilliant captain.”
