We couldn’t wait to Get Together and so went for it early!

-

While most of the events are happening from 16-18 June, there have been a few early Get Togethers.

London’s Portobello Road played host to a pop-up street party with locals enjoying food, dancing and live music.

Oxford’s Muslim community held a “Grand Iftar”, where guests learned about Ramadan and observed the sunset prayer that marks the breaking of the fast.

A special Iftar meal was then served, with some of the food donated by residents and restaurants. The event was organised by a local homeless charity and was attended by terror attacks to build closer ties by celebrating what they have in common.

Inspired by The Great Get Together, they are posting short films highlighting the aspects of life they share, with the message “Great Together”.

The videos, using messages held up on cue cards, were inspired by the film, Love Actually, in which the character played by Andrew Lincoln uses them to declare his love for Keira Knightley.

Leeds imam, Qari Asim, and city rabbi, Esther Hugenholtz, made their own video as part of the same project.
