Rescued... blind man waving from window
FACE OF FEAR Trapped OAP waves A PARTIALLY-SIGHTED pensioner was rescued by firefighters after a terrifying 12-hour wait in his 11th floor flat.
The man, who is in his 70s and has lived in Grenfell Tower for 30 years, was seen frantically waving a jumper at rescuers as he leaned from a window.
He also prayed as choking smoke and flames threatened to engulf his property. But miraculously firefighters managed to force their way into his flat and bring him down to safety.
He was photographed wrapped in a blanket and being cared for by emergency workers.
They protected the man from falling burning debris with borrowed police riot shields.
He was rescued at around noon – almost 12 hours after the blaze broke out.
