Rescued... blind man waving from window

FACE OF FEAR Trapped OAP waves A PARTIALLY-SIGHTED pensioner was rescued by firefighte­rs after a terrifying 12-hour wait in his 11th floor flat.

The man, who is in his 70s and has lived in Grenfell Tower for 30 years, was seen franticall­y waving a jumper at rescuers as he leaned from a window.

He also prayed as choking smoke and flames threatened to engulf his property. But miraculous­ly firefighte­rs managed to force their way into his flat and bring him down to safety.

He was photograph­ed wrapped in a blanket and being cared for by emergency workers.

They protected the man from falling burning debris with borrowed police riot shields.

He was rescued at around noon – almost 12 hours after the blaze broke out.
