Corbyn brings rival Smith into new Shadow Cabinet
JEREMY Corbyn strengthened his grip over Labour last night by rewarding loyalists and clipping the wings of his Deputy Tom Watson.
The Labour leader dismissed calls for him to give jobs to “big beasts” Yvette Cooper, Chuka Umunna and Dan Jarvis.
One key Corbyn critic was brought back into the fold – Owen KEY ROLE Owen Smith Smith, who unsuccessfully challenged for the leadership last summer. Mr Smith was given a key role as Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary. Mr Corbyn took on Deputy Leader Tom Watson by stripping him of his dual role as party chairman. He remains deputy leader and also the Shadow Culture Secretary. Dawn Butler was reappointed Shadow Minister for Diverse Communities after quitting in the Article 50 row in February.
