MASON BUILDS ON HAMMERING
Ladbrokes Challenge Cup: Quarter-final Salford v Wakef’ld CYCLING
MASON CATONBROWN began the season on the end of a 46-0 thrashing at Championship Rochdale and is now just two wins from Wembley.
The Wakefield flyer had dual registration with partner club Dewsbury then, but has since become a key figure for Chris Chester’s side.
Caton-Brown has scored 15 tries in only 12 Trinity appearances, including a hat-trick against tonight’s Challenge Cup quarterfinal opponents and his former club Salford. The wing, 24, will be hoping to repeat that feat tonight and move closer to the final – even if it means upsetting old mates.
He said: “I’ve still got a lot of friends at Salford and still live in Manchester.
“I see a few of them at the gym or around town and the Salford fans are still really nice and were wishing me well even after we won there the other week.
“It’s one of my favourite grounds to play at so it was good to score those tries.
“Both games we played in Super League this year were close and we won them.” AUTHORS of the long-awaited report into an alleged “culture of fear” at British Cycling have denied their probe was a whitewash.
The panel’s dossier was highly critical of the sport’s leadership and treatment of axed sprinter Jess Varnish. She was dropped from the elite programme after failing to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympics – lodging claims of bullying, discrimination and sexism against former technical director Shane Sutton.
But the published report is a toned down version of a draft document leaked earlier this year. Panel chair Annamarie Phelps insisted: “I don’t believe it’s a whitewash.
“It’s quite a strong report with very strong recommendations and very strong criticisms.”
