Saints go off to Bed in Poland for clean sheets

SOUTHAMPTON are bidding to sign young Polish ace Jan Bednarek to give them greater defensive solidarity.

Saints are eager to replace Jose Fonte, who left in January for West Ham, and wantaway Virgil van Dijk. They have already made a move for Bednarek (above) but had a bid of more than £5million rejected by Lech Poznan.

Bednarek, 21, is playing for his country at this month’s Under-21 European Championship on home soil.

He played 27 times for Lech Poznan in the Polish top flight last season and has also attracted the interest of Hannover.
