All-time high terror arrests
THERE were a record 304 terrorism arrests last year, an increase of 18%.
The Home Office figures reveal the number of white suspects detained jumped from 68 to 113 – a 66% rise.
The National Police Chiefs’ Council said counter-terror officers are “dealing with an unprecedented level of demand”. The figures for the year to April include 12 people held in connection with the Westminster attack in March.
Of the 300-plus total arrests, 108 resulted in a charge. International terrorism – activity linked to or motivated by extremists based outside Britain – accounted for about 75% of all the arrests.
