WE FAILED POOR SAM
The devastating death of 14-year-old Sam Abel is a terrible tragedy for him, his family and friends. As a teacher and parent, I was greatly saddened to hear that suicide was the only action Sam thought he could take to escape the relentless bullies. We have clearly failed him.
Looking to the future, we must understand what leads young people to bully and behave in such a barbaric and inhumane way. Only then can we stop this level of intimidation and the all too common response of self-harm and suicide. Julie Hetherington Prestwich, Manchester
At 23.43 on election night, I received an email from the Conservatives begging me to get all my friends out to vote.
This sheer incompetence is indicative of Theresa May’s election campaign. The Tories lost the plot and would be incapable of organising a lottery in a bingo hall, never mind run the country.

The growth of permit parking in residential areas is causing mayhem with our environment. Residents then have to pave over gardens as streets become commercial enterprises for council parking quangos.
