48% against Tories’ bid to do DUP deal

- BY BEN GLAZE Deputy Political Editor

ALMOST half of voters oppose a Tory deal with the Democratic Unionist Party, a poll showed.

Just 27% would back a pact and 48% are against, with 44% saying it would be worse than the Tories trying to govern alone.

Only 8% approved of Arlene Foster’s right-wing party, which opposes abortion and gay rights, in the YouGov poll for The Times.

An unfavourable view of the DUP was held by 48%.

Theresa May has turned to the party for a “confidence and supply” deal in the Commons.

But a DUP source said: “It will be at least the start of next week before anything is signed off.”

The Queen’s Speech is already delayed by 48 hours until Wednesday.
