IT seems there is one police squad that has got catching crooks off to a tee…

Officers leapt onto golf buggies to chase a burglar as he fled across fairways after breaking into a nearby house.

They also used lawnmowers from a nearby sewage works to pursue the raider.

The comical low-speed chase, involving 14 officers, took place at Kilton Forest Golf Club in Worksop. Nottinghamshire Police said: “We would like to thank the staff and members of the club and staff from the nearby sewage works after they helped us find and detain a wanted male.

“Without the use of the buggies and mowers he might have got away. Thanks for the lifts in this hot weather.” The club’s facilities manager Rob Brooks added: “Our golf marshal was on the course and helped them all out.”

And Severn Trent Water said: “We were happy to help the police by providing transport that allowed officers to cover more ground and catch the suspect.”

Not surprisingly, the chase raised a few laughs on social media. User Steven Barton posted: “That sounds like something from a Police Academy film.”

And Christopher Loftus said: “Benny Hill… I bet it was hilarious and great to watch.”

A 28-year-old man was arrested after the pursuit. The officers had probably clasped him in irons.
