BUST THAT MYTH about migraines

-

Myth 1: A migraine is just a bad headache Migraine is a neurological disease where a headache is only one of many possible symptoms of an attack. Migraine attacks can sometimes occur with no headache at all. When this occurs, they’re described as ‘silent’ migraines.

Myth 2: Migraines don’t last for days and nobody has a migraine every day A typical migraine lasts from four to 72 hours but can last longer. They sometimes last days, weeks, or even months. Chronic migraine is having migraines 15 or more days per month. Many people with CM have a migraine or a headache every day.

Myth 3: Only adults have migraines People of all ages have migraines. Some children have them while very young, before they’re even old enough to tell anyone what’s wrong. With children that young, diagnosis is made by reviewing family medical history and observing the child’s behaviour. In children, migraines can manifest themselves as abdominal pain and these are called abdominal migraines. Myth 4: If you don’t have auras, you don’t have migraine Only 25% to 30% of people who suffer from migraine will have an aura (a visual disturbance), and even fewer of them have an aura with every migraine attack.
